Olive Bone Charcoal, produced by Carboliva, is a sustainable and eco-friendly product derived from the biomass of olive groves. Located within the Acesur-Coosur facilities in Jaén, Carboliva utilizes a pyrolytic oven to transform this biomass into high-quality charcoal. This process not only aids in the extraction of pomace oil but also results in the production of approximately five thousand tons of coal from pulp and olive stone annually. The charcoal is renowned for its smokeless and odorless properties, making it an ideal choice for barbecues. Its briquettes have a long-lasting burn time of three to four hours, providing a calorific value of around 8,000 kcal/kg. With less than 5% ash and a moisture content of 8-12%, this charcoal is a superior alternative to traditional options.
In addition to its use in barbecues, Olive Bone Charcoal serves multiple purposes. It acts as an effective substitute for coconut shell carbon, which is often imported from deforestation-affected regions in Asia. The European Parliament's ban on such imports highlights the importance of sustainable alternatives like olive stone coal. Furthermore, its high fixed carbon content and low ash percentage make it suitable for manufacturing green steel, a low carbon footprint option increasingly demanded by industries such as automotive. Olive Bone Charcoal also plays a crucial role in soil improvement as biochar, enhancing soil fertility by storing water, nutrients, and microorganisms. Its carbon abatement properties contribute to CO2 emission control, ensuring long-term carbon sequestration in the ground.
